Baking Basics

Receipe of the month:

Is your idea good enough?

Believe it or not, there is an easy way of knowing whether your idea is a good idea. And it’s not about how much money your idea can make, or whether you are likely to find enough customers.

Quite simply, it’s all about whether you like your idea enough.

Here’s how to tell.

What you need

  • 10 ways to tell that your idea is a good idea

How you do it

Quite simply say, under your breath if need be,  “that sounds like me” to all ten of these.

Your idea is a good idea if…….

  1. You are so interested in it that you read and learn about it compulsively.
  2. You know that you can live and breathe it exclusively and indefinitely.
  3. You feel as though you have some special insight into it. And by that I don’t mean a PhD in the subject but rather some practical knowledge such as having big boobs if your idea is about bras for the ample bosom.
  4. You sense there is such a need for this that you almost feel panicky that you can’t do it quickly enough
  5. You just know that no-one else is doing this, in your area, to your customers, in quite the way that you will (and you know this because you are pretty knowledgeable on your subject)
  6. You find it easy to describe your idea to friends and family and they understand it.
  7. It’s simple
  8. It’s something you want to use
  9. It solves a problem that you feel passionately about (women with big boobs should be able to buy pretty bras; dogs should get walked while their owners are at work; busy Mums should be able to buy ready-made organic food for their babies)
  10. You feel proud of it

Don’t worry right now about whether there are enough customers, whether it will make money, how you will actually make it happen. They are all the subjects of other recipes. Right now just make sure that it is a good idea.
